BE drops final regular season game, still qualify for playoffs

The Andrews Yellow Jackets spoiled Bishop England’s final regular-season home game last Friday when they defeated the Battling Bishops 38-14.

Andrews’ Justin Duncan started a three-touchdown scoring flurry when he ran 83 yards for a touchdown on his first rushing attempt. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 22-0 first-quarter lead before the Bishops scored, thanks to a 54-yard touchdown pass from Bishop England’s Anthony Rowland to Fran Johnson.

Andrews responded with a five-yard touchdown run by Roderick White. The Bishops’ Rowland then hooked up with Dominique Turner for a 13-yards for a 30-14 halftime score.

Andrews capped off the night’s scoring in the third quarter when Duncan dashed 50 yards for a touchdown. He finished with 202 yards rushing for the night.

Bishop England finished its regular season with a 6-4 record and will travel to Edisto Friday for the opening round of the Class AA playoffs.

Hawks roll to win, earn 45 straight victory in Region 6-AA play

The Hanahan Hawks celebrated their homecoming Oct. 28 with a 43-19 victory over Garrett Tech. The victory was the Hawks’ 45th-straight victory in Region 6-AA play.

Hanahan’s sophomore quarterback John Carnell tossed three touchdown passes, including two to senior wide-receiver Deandre Smalls. Meanwhile, the Hawks’ stingy defense allowed no points until well into the second half of play.

Hanahan, which posted an 8-2 record during the regular season, will host Wade Hampton this week in the opening round of the Class AA football playoffs.
