Katie Estabrook joins The Daniel Island News team!

We are delighted to announce that Katie Estabrook has joined The Daniel Island News team as a general assignment reporter. A native of Mooresville, North Carolina, Katie is a recent honor graduate of Coastal Carolina University (CCU), where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a focus on interactive journalism.
Prior to joining The Daniel Island News, Katie served as Editor-in-Chief for The Chanticleer Newspaper at CCU. As Editor, she led a 19-member staff in overseeing the content, design and delivery of some 3,300 issues per week. Previously at The Chanticleer, she held positions as assistant editor, copy editor and reporter.
Katie describes herself as “driven,” “task-oriented” and “highly motivated” when it comes to her passion for news writing. In her first few weeks at The Daniel Island News, Katie has demonstrated an impressive skillset for both interviewing and reporting while covering a wide variety of topics. A Daniel Island resident, she is eager to engage with her new community.
“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and excited to get to know all things Daniel Island,” said Katie. “For the month or so that I’ve been living here so far, I have met wonderful people, walked beautiful trails and enjoyed delicious food without having to leave the island. It’s by far the most wonderful place I have yet to plant my roots and I’m thrilled to see what experiences and opportunities come my way.”
“We’ve been looking to add a full-time writer to our staff for some time,” explained publisher Suzanne Detar. “With the growth on the island over the last two years, we needed the commitment of a dedicated writer to cover news and events. We think we’ve found a perfect fit with Katie.”
