RE: "TIME FOR A GRAND PARK ON DANIEL ISLAND"
I love the concept of a grand park for the southern tip of Daniel Island as presented by Rep. Sanford. As a New Yorker, my life in Manhattan was incredibly enhanced by Central Park. It was my playground.
But wait, Rep. Sanford mentioned that “traffic is going from bad to worse” and “[w]e see signs . . . of our own growth with . . . traffic congestion.” These concerns about growth and traffic very accurately describe Daniel Island. While Rep. Sanford touts that the park “would be accessible by water taxi from downtown or Mount Pleasant,” he omits the burdensome increase in auto traffic that would result from the park and adversely impact already crowded residential streets on Daniel Island. If only this concept with appropriate vehicular access would have been developed and included in the Daniel Island Master Plan. That would have been spectacular.
Yes, I love the concept of a grand park. No, I do not want park traffic to further crowd the streets on Daniel Island. If Rep. Sanford can offer a concrete and viable solution to automobile access, I will be among the first to support the effort.
