DANIEL ISLAND RESIDENT PENS POEM ABOUT HER NEW COMMUNITY
Today’s Reflections
Cobblestone walkways, in intricate patterns, reaching out under my feet
Old live oaks, dripping with moss overhead
Planters, popping with vivid blooms at every door
Fountains, overflowing and begging children to come and splash
Flickering lanterns, hanging by entrances offering warm welcomes
Inviting gardens, waiting for diners, their friends and laughter, later in the evening
Blue-eyed twins, just the age of my precious Kate, sharing a stroller, for a happy morning ride
Slight, briny breeze, brushing my face as I near the water
One lone seagull, waiting to greet me before he flees
Blue heron at the water’s edge, enjoying what appears to be a large breakfast
A mass of tiny crabs, skittering from the sand into the low grass for protection from the coming heat of the sun
A huge red-headed vulture, comically stretching himself and posing on the ledge in front of a high window
Friendly people, walking the same path as me this morning
Daniel Island, I love my new life here!
Grateful!
