Life’s celebrations continue: Graduation and Mother’s Day
Stay-at-home orders, social distancing and other COVID-19 induced life changes are just that: changes. It is comforting to recognize that even in the midst of these changes, The Daniel Island News can still provide our traditional coverage of high school graduations and Mother’s Day.
These changes, though stressful and unwelcome, help us recognize and appreciate our students and mothers in a new light. Over the next month, we will expand our coverage of these special events to include the impact this unusual time brings to these occasions, including the unique ways we celebrate.
High School Graduation
Our high school graduation edition is set for June 4. As in previous years, we will publish photos of all the graduating seniors from our readership area. We already have all the seniors’ photos for Bishop England and Philip Simmons high schools, but we ask our readers to submit photos of all graduating seniors from the greater
Daniel Island area attending other public, private and online schools.
We will reach out to all the private and public schools in our area but we do expect responses from administrators to be limited by the demands the virus is putting on them. Please remind your neighbors and friends to send their students’ photos with name and school to boots@thedanielislandnews.com as soon as possible so we can recognize all our local students.

Mothers’ Day
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10. We plan to highlight reader submissions about mothers in the May 7 edition. Please share your Mother’s Day musing — thanking your mom or describing why she is special — and send photos to pam@thedanielislandnews.com.
