New Owners of Island Town Café Add Flavor To Daniel Island

***image1***If you haven’t already sampled the fare at Island Town Café, there’s never been a better time. Open for a little over a month, new owners Linda Hitchcock and her mother-in-law, Wanda Hitchcock, have created an eatery that is sure to appeal to everyone. While the interior cosmetic changes have been minimal, the menu is anything but. Island Town Café offers a variety of breakfast sandwiches, muffins and wraps. Their bagels are baked fresh daily and come directly from Charleston Bagel. One of the signature breakfast items includes the Papa John’s Wrap, a combination of egg, feta cheese, red onion, tomato and ham. The wrap was created and named for Wanda’s husband John who was planning to be a part of the restaurant, but sadly passed away last year. "This whole concept is a family business," comments Doug Hitchcock, Linda’s husband. In fact, Doug’s sister Ginger will be relocating to join the business early next year.

Linda Hitchcock is no stranger to the restaurant business. She opened the original "Hops Restaurant" in Clearwater, Fla. and served as corporate trainer for the company. In addition, she was the general manager at "Just Fresh" in Belle Hall for four years.

The lunch menu includes several items that are made fresh daily, including Linda’s own Cucumber Feta Spread, Honey Lime Dressing and the House Vinaigrette, as well as Linda’s secret "Coney Sauce" which tops the Café’s Coney Dog. In her creation of the menu, Linda explains that it includes many items that she and her family enjoy eating. Sandwich offerings include a Steak and Cheese Sandwich, and two of Linda’s personal favorites, the Tunicado—white albacore tuna salad, avocado, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion; and the Mariner, which is comprised of oven roasted turkey breast, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and cucumber feta spread.

Other items include a BBQ Chicken Quesadilla, a Tropical Chicken Wrap—which includes grilled chicken, Roma tomatoes, toasted almonds, mandarin oranges, pineapple, carrots, lettuce and honey lime dressing; salad choices such as the California Cobb and Mediterranean, as well as daily soup and sandwich specials.

To satisfy your "sweet tooth", Island Town Café offers their special cheesecake in two varieties, plain and chocolate chip. The family recipe has been passed down through the generations and takes 12 hours to prepare. In addition, the café carries an assortment of "My Grandma of New England Coffee Cakes" including cappuccino and cinnamon swirl.

Island Town Café is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. -
4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. And with the holidays right around the corner be sure to contact Linda for information about boxed lunches and catering. The telephone number is 849-7773.
