SC Teacher of the Year addressed Hanahan Middle School PTA

***image1***South Carolina Teacher of the Year Stephanie Seay was the guest-featured speaker at the Hanahan Middle School PTA meeting on Tues., Nov. 15. The HMS choir also performed.

Seay, a kindergarten teacher from Spartanburg District 5, shared a message of encouragement to parents, teachers and students in attendance. Borrowing from the children’s book The Three Questions by John Muth and based on the works of Leo Tolstoy, Seay noted that HMS faculty continually answer the three questions to which the character in the book sought answers: Who is the most important person? When is the most important time? And, what is the right thing to do?

Answering the question who is the most important, Seay said she witnessed HMS teachers treat the student in front of them as the most important. She said that the book and HMS teachers recognize that the most important time is being in the moment. Finally, Seay explained that HMS teachers and staff are doing the right thing by preparing their students for the feature.

Having spent the afternoon in and around Hanahan and the middle school, Seay remarks were intimately geared to the local community. She told the crowd that when she thinks of HMS, she thinks of students who walk to school, kids fishing off of nearby bridges and the school’s Books Rock Café.

Prior to Seay’s remarks, students led the crowd with the pledge to the flag and an invocation, fundraising awards were presented and the treasurer’s report was given. The choir sang "Cantate Domino" and "Double Trouble".
