School Board briefed on construction progress of The DI School

Construction of the new Daniel Island School is going well and district officials expect that it will be ready for occupancy next July.

Roofs are on most of the buildings and some interior painting and terrazzo installation is underway, according to Ken Coffey, assistant superintendent for operational services.

He met with Daniel Island School Principal Carolyn Morris last week to review progress.

Coffey said some hurdles remain regarding securing electricity for the site but said it appears that right-of-way permits should be issued soon.

"Every time I go over there I see more houses going up between the school and the harbor," Coffey told the school board last week. "I see a lot of folks with small children on bicycles and with strollers and can imagine them walking their children to the school in a few years. It’s exciting to see what’s going on."
