Suspect in local shooting surrenders
A 21-year-old Huger man, who is suspected in a shooting last Saturday at Rew’s Run-In on Clements Ferry Road, turned himself in to Charleston Police Monday. Tanis Grant is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to Lt. Richard Moser. Grant was taken to the Berkeley County jail and was expected to make an initial court appearance on Tuesday. The victim, David McCray, 25, of Wando, was visiting relatives who work at Rew’s Run-In Saturday afternoon when he was shot twice in the torso. He reportedly told police that he knew who had shot him. The gas station is located on Clements Ferry Road at Jack Primus Road. McCray was taken to Medical University Hospital where he underwent surgery and is in intensive care. While MUSC officials refused comment on his condition, Moser said McCray is expected to recover. He added that a local TV website report stating that the victim had died was in error. Berkeley County Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury confirmed that he’d received no report of McCray’s death.
