Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the July 25 meeting, the committee requested that the subdivision plat and road construction plans for a 63-lot phase in the Oak Bluff development on Clements Ferry Road be revised and resubmitted to TRC. Items on the agenda for the next meeting on August 8 include the subdivision concept plan for 62 lots on Lesesne Street on Daniel Island; the site plan for grading, parking, and stormwater improvements for an existing parking lot at 146 Fairchild Street; the road construction plans for road modification of a parcel on Pierce Street; and the site plan for a two-story commercial building at 890 Island Park Drive.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the next meeting on August 7, the board will discuss the request for a variance to allow the removal of one grand tree at 145 Nobels Point on Daniel Island and the request for a one-year extension to the variances granted on August 3, 2017, for the removal of four grand trees; and a reduced impervious construction setback near the bases of 17 grand trees at the Oak Bluff development on Clements Ferry Road.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The next meeting will be held on August 6 with no issues of impact to the Daniel Island/Cainhoy area on the agenda.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — Agenda items for the next meeting, to be held on August 5, include a request for conceptual approval for the construction of a music performance venue and retail space at 890 Island Park Drive; the request for preliminary approval for the construction of a two-story mixed-use building at River Landing Village; and the request for preliminary review for the construction of a Marriott hotel on Fairchild Street.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be held on August 21. The agenda is not yet published.
