These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island and Cainhoy. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC): The next meeting will be held on Feb. 27 with no issue of impact affecting Daniel Island. At the last meeting, construction plans for the renovation of the existing DI Children’s Park were reviewed and revisions requested.
City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD): The next meeting will be held on March 4 with no items affecting Daniel Island or Cainhoy.
City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z): The next meeting will be held on March 3 with no issues of impact scheduled for Daniel Island or Cainhoy. At the last meeting, a request was approved for a variance at 104 Cartwright Street to allow a garage addition that is 12 feet behind the front setback line; the ordinance typically requires garages to be located at least 20 feet behind the front setback line.
City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB): The next meeting will be held on March 2. An agenda has not yet been released.
City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC): The next meeting will be held March 18. An agenda has not been published. At the Feb. 19 meeting, the commission approved an ordinance to amend the Daniel Island Master Plan Section 3.2(4)(2)(7) by deleting “or day care facilities” and adding a new Section 3.2(4)(8) “Day care facility.” The effect of the change is to allow a standalone day care facility that is not limited to just an accessory use in areas zoned Daniel Island - General Office.
