The threat of Hurricane Florence not only wreaked havoc on the Lowcountry by causing a mandatory evacuation, but according to Hayden Jennings with Hayden Jennings Properties, it also negatively influenced Daniel Island home sales in September.
“Hurricane Florence had an impact on the September market as evacuation and preparations put a hold on real estate activity,” stated Jennings.
Twenty five homes sold in September, which was down from August, but that number is still above what it was last September.
As of October 22, there were 177 homes for sale, with 125 active and 52 under contract. Total sales in September equaled $21,384,686.
The most expensive home purchased was in Smythe Park on Bellona Street for just over $1.4 million. The least expensive home sold was a condo on Bucksley Lane for $155,000.
An interesting trend this September, noted Jennings, was that more condos closed than did in September 2017.
“For closed sales the number of single family home transactions was the same at 13 for both September 2017 and September 2018, however the number of condo transactions was up dramatically at 12 in September 2018 vs. two in September 2017. It’s possible that lenders are not as hesitant to lend on condos as the recession gets further back in memory.”
