Bishops basketball teams defeat Academic Magnet

Bishop England’s boys and girls basketball teams celebrated Senior Night with victories against Academic Magnet.

The Lady Bishops absolutely dominated, winning 87-23. The Magnet team could not contain senior JoJo Tompkins, who finished with 19 points and 8 assists. Caroline McQueeney also played well, finishing with 9 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. Coach Runey praised his senior forward, “Caroline can do that all year long. We’ve always talked about it. Caroline can be as good as she wants to be, if she wants to be good, she can do it.”

While the girls’ game was a blowout, the boys’ game was a thrilling overtime victory with the Bishops winning 60-58. A huge and sometimes rowdy crowd urged on both teams, and after the victory, the BE student body stormed the court. Brenden McHale stepped up in the fourth after struggling for much of three quarters and Ben Quinque delivered clutch free throws in overtime. Another notable performance was Wil Riley who delivered a 7 point, 13 rebound outing before fouling out.

With the win, Bishop England now has a one game lead over Battery Creek in the conference.
