Bishops blow out Garrett Tech

The Bishop England Battling Bishops dominated the Garrett Tech Falcons 35-6 last Friday night in their homecoming game. Fullback/defensive lineman John DeStefano lead a nearly unstoppable rushing attack for the Bishops, and the Bishop defense stepped up big to end drives all game.
John DeStefano played like a monster. On just 14 rushing attempts, DeStefano ran for an unbelievable 171 yards. Even more impressively, not a single of his touches went for negative yards. In fact, over the entire game, only one rush resulted in negative yards for the entire team. The rushing attack also included quarterback Leo Albano and running backs Jake Mock and Ian Butler. Between DeStefano, Butler, Mock and Albano, 38 plays were run. On those 38 plays, the Bishops gained 328 yards and scored five touchdowns.
The defense also played strong. Danny Kiernan had a phenomenal game. He finished with a team leading ten tackles, a sack, a pass deflection and an interception. The team played well beyond Kiernan’s contributions though, as BE only allowed Garrett 258 yards of total offense.
After the game, Coach Cantey spoke about the running game, “You’ve got three possibilities, and that defense has got to decide on what they want to take away. They took Leo away tonight, so we featured John.”
The Bishops are now 2-0 in their conference. Their next game is on Friday when they play at North Charleston. The Bishops look to improve to even at 4-4.
