Daniel Island Happy Hour 5K Series
The Daniel Island Happy Hour 5K Series is up and running!
Events in the series, which launched on May 25, are open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Each race features a post-race party at a Daniel Island restaurant. Remaining events will take place on the following Thursdays - June 22, July 27, August 24, and September 4. The 2017 series will conclude with a new Labor Day finale!
According to the Daniel Island Happy Hour 5K Series website, the trail course features some of the most beautiful views in Charleston. Participants will be able to measure their progress over the course of the summer. The course may be altered from event to event due to construction on Daniel Island.
Each event will start and finish near the Family Circle Tennis Center. Participants are asked to look for the “Fleet Feet Sports” arch on race day.
Runners can participate in individual 5Ks or all five races, and each race offers individual awards. To place overall or in your age group for the series, you must run at least three races, and your top three 5K times determine your placement.
Registrants for the series will receive a technical t-shirt with the series logo. Non-series registrants can purchase the shirt for $20.
You can register online for $25 per race or sign up onsite for $35. A portion of the entry fee benefits Girls on the Run Charleston, a non-profit organization that serves Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. Girls on the Run “inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based, curriculum that integrates running,” states the series’ website.
The race entry fee includes a unisex cotton t-shirt, gifts from sponsors, post-race refreshments, and a complimentary “first beer” (for those 21 and older) at the post-race party.
After each race, awards are presented to the top male and female overall, Masters and Grand Masters runners, as well as age group winners.
Age groups are 1-9, 10-13, 14-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.
At the final race of the summer, race awards will be presented, as well as series awards, for the same categories and age groups. Sponsors include Lucey Mortgage Corporation, Girls on the Run, Fleet Feet Sports, and TimingInc.com. To register, or for additional information, visit http://www.dihappyhour5k.com.
