Denise Myers wins tiebreaker!

Denise Myers is this week’s Pig Skin Pick ‘Em Challenge winner. Denise was tied in head to head play with Beth Noding with 8-3 records. Denise was closest in the score tiebreaker for the Denver game to beat Helen Girly Brown (Clyde Hiers’ dog) (5-6) to earn a $50 gift card to Wasabi Daniel Island.

We did have one sponsor correctly pick The Citadel’s upset over South Carolina, Tony Pope of State Farm. In the NFL, all the sponsors picked Philadelphia to win, but they were upset by Tampa Bay. Also in the NFL, many readers and sponsors missed the Colts victory over Atlanta.

Each week from now until the Super Bowl, readers will be given the opportunity to “Beat the Sponsor” and to win great prizes. We will email a link to the survey each Tuesday evening via our “Coming This Week” eblast and we will also put the URL link on our Facebook page and here in the paper, and on the bottom banner on our website, www.thednaielislandnews.com. To be eligible to win, you must select your entries online by noon on Friday. There is no cost to enter. If you’d like to be added to our eblast, please send your email address to sdetar@thedanielislandnews.com.

You can also enter by going to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3NNR6WY to fill out your ballot or by dropping a paper ballot to our office by noon on Friday.

Each week, we will also include a running win-loss record for each of our sponsors and the paper will donate $500 to the charity of choice of the sponsor who has the best overall win-loss record at the end of the season. First place in the sponsor standings changed again this week in the sea-saw race between UBS and 843 Health Marketplace.

The standings are very close, with only one win separating first and second place. First place – Dave Williams of 843 Health Marketplace (89-35); second place - Steve Meyer and Jeff Burton of UBS (88-36); third place – tie between Tony Pope State Farm and Phil Bowman, sportswriter for The Daniel Island News (82-42); fifth place – Dr. Estes of Southern Orthopedics (81-43); sixth place – Helen Girly Brown (78-46); seventh place – Cara Schaafsma of Irongate Realty (75-49); and, eighth place, the employees of the Daniel Island Grille (68-56).
