Lady Bishops advance to second round in playoffs!

The Bishop England High School girls’ basketball team began their journey towards a possible fifth consecutive state title Tuesday night with a 68-47 victory over Bluffton in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs. The Bishops stayed ahead the entire game, outscoring the Bobcats in each of the first three quarters. Bluffton scored its highest point spread in the fourth quarter with 18, compared to 4 for the Bishops.

Topping the Bishops in points was center Katie Brooks, a junior, who scored a game high 20 points. Following Brooks were Katie Cullum, 16; Kelly Drummond, 14; Kessy Bradshaw, 8; Jahia Williams, 4; Shawna Swanson, 3; Patricia George, 2; and Kelly Perkins, 1.

The Bishops are 17-4 overall and 8-0 in the region. They advance to the second round in the playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 15, when they take on Brookland-Cayce at BE.
