Running for clean water

Daniel Island resident Ryan Oberly participated in the 36-leg/200-mile relay run for Team World Vision from Aug. 28-29. Oberly ran three legs —  7.2 miles, 7.8 miles, and 5.5 miles — around Daniel Island.

“It was a miracle, but Team World Vision managed to raise $1,017,000, which brings clean water to 20,340 people,” he said. “That’s a very special impact…It was an unusual year but to see my family and kids participate in a much deeper way this year is something
I’ll always remember. Especially my son who rode with me in a torrential downpour for 7.2 miles.”

Team World Vision is a humanitarian organization that raises funds for clean water by hosting athletic events such as marathons and triathlons. While the group provides relief to communities around the world, it typically focuses on health, education, and economic development in Africa. One of their events is a relay to bring clean water and sanitation solutions to South Sudan.
