South Coast Lacrosse Association continues work on new DI Lacrosse Park

Action continues at the new Daniel Island Lacrosse Park – and not just by the players on the field. The park, owned and developed by the South Coast Lacrosse Association (SCLA), has one of five fields complete and Field No. 2 is about a third of the way done, said Greg Taylor, president of the SCLA board of directors.

“It’s been great,” he added. “A lot of the kids are playing on the field and we just finished our club summer league for all the local teams…We’re getting ready to get into fall lacrosse at the end of September.”

The first field at the park opened in April of 2019 with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The SCLA is continuing its fundraising efforts to see the project to fruition. A number of local companies have stepped up to help with financial support – Green Acres, Beachside Real Estate, Sweetgrass, and Fast Iron.

The multi-field park has already earned the nickname “Lax Ranch.” But Taylor and his team are in the process of creating official names for each field. He already knows one field will bear the name of his late wife, Meghan Mulqueen Taylor, a beloved local lacrosse coach who worked tirelessly to advocate for the sport.

“She was really the driving force behind women’s lacrosse here (on Daniel Island),” said Greg. “And she started the first all-women’s club team and coached at Bishop England.”

The SCLA Daniel Island Lacrosse Park is located at 1651 Oak Leaf Street, past the Edgefield Park Pool and Crow’s Nest.
