Swim Charleston swimmers excel at Palmetto Champs!

Swim Charleston sent 72 swimmers to the Palmetto State Championships in late March in Duncan SC. Nearly all (98%) of the races completed by Swim Charleston were personal bests. Daniel Island residents Gracyn Ross, JJ Vance, and Addison Stephens had some of the team’s largest time drops: Gracyn (25 seconds - 500 free), Addison ( 20 seconds - 200 IM), and JJ (17 seconds - 200 free) and DI resident Brady Evin got new state championship cuts in the 200 free and 100 IM. He will compete in the Long Course State Championships in Columbia in July.

Thirty-eight Swim Charleston swimmers ages 11/up returned in the evening for second swims in finals (top 24). These swimmers include Daniel Island residents Charlie Beck, Eddie Beck, Taylor Ivey, EmiGrace Lagadinos, Mackenzie LeVeen, Bryce May, Gracyn Ross, Ann Wesley Shaw, and JJ Vance. Brady Evin, age 10, finished second in the 50 back and 50 free and third in the 100 free and 200 free. Other resident 10/under swimmers finishing in the top 12 include Henry Beck, Katherine Norton, and Hayden Wilmot.

Now that the short course season is over (competition in 25 yard pools), the team will turn to preparing to race in 50 meter pools comparable to that of the Olympics. Swim Charleston will return to Duncan for their first long course meet of the summer season the weekend of May 19-21.

Swim Charleston provides learn to swim opportunities as well as competitive swimming instruction and racing opportunities for team members ages 4-18 during the months of September through July. They also provide Masters swimming for adults. The team can be reached through their website at swimcharleston.org.
