Students honor Veterans Day

On Thursday, Nov. 11, the Daniel Island School hosted a Veterans Day red, white and blue celebration in honor of those who have served and still serve our country’s armed forces. The patriotic fanfare commenced at 1 p.m. with approximately 40 veterans in attendance.
Berkeley County School District Superintendent Deon Jackson was in attendance as well as Philip Simmons High School ROTC. The guest speaker was Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis.
Each service member, a majority of whom were students’ family members, was called to rise and be recognized. In return, as a token of gratitude, the school bestowed each service member with a miniature American flag as a keepsake for their duty and sacrifice.
