Wellmore residents hit the greens!
A group of 10 residents of Wellmore of Daniel Island put their golfing skills to the test for a special tournament at the Dunes West Golf Course on August 1. The residents spent the four-weeks prior to the event participating in a golf clinic with golf pro Cameron Ford.
“It is our desire to help our residents to spark back up a past passion of the sport of golf or to learn the skills of golf for the first time,” said Erica Peterson, Wellmore’s wellness director. “Recalling past sport experiences in their lives that they enjoyed is so beneficial for them to receive joy once again. We had some residents who learned the skills of golf for the first time. We continually press the action of motivating our residents to continually learn new components because we believe learning a new skill can slow the effects of cognitive and physical aging.”
At Dunes West, the residents took part in putting, chipping and long-drive competitions. Then they returned to Wellmore to enjoy an awards ceremony honoring each participant.
“We ended the afternoon with a 19 hole campus wide celebration,” added Peterson. “We had a celebration filled with active seniors who were smiling ear to ear with joy in their hearts. That is what it is all about…Our main goal is to improve their quality of life and to help them smile every day.”
