Look Who’s Here at Point Hope: pizza, yoga, with more on the way

This year, Clements Ferry residents have experienced the rollout of new retail, dining, and fitness options as commercial development projects at Point Hope have progressed.

New businesses that have opened their doors in 2024 include Domino’s, Modern Movement Yoga, Community Craft House, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, Subtle and Sass Boutique, and Creative Edge Dance Center.

Still to come: Ye Ole Fashioned, Catrina’s Tacos and Tequila, Dunkin Donuts, Orchid Nail Salon, Firehouse Subs, Handles Frozen Yogurt, and Kings Leaf Cigar Bar.

According to Fritz Meyer of Meyer Kapp & Associates, Catrina’s Tacos and Tequila is set to open by the end of this year, with the remaining businesses anticipated to launch by early 2025.

Meet the new tenants of Point Hope, located on Renaissance Lane, Foundation Street, and Point Hope Parkway.

Domino’s, 826 Foundation St., is a pizza delivery and carryout chain known for its customizable pizzas and variety of sides including breadsticks, wings, pasta, and sandwiches. As the first business to open in The Gates at Point Hope, owner Kevin Kerchenko said it has been fun to watch the community grow.

“I have loved the support that I have received from the community,” he said. “I believe people associate pizza with having fun, so we want the local community to count on us for their kids’ birthday parties, after-school practices, office parties, and family dinners. We are a locally owned and operated franchise who strives for great pizzas, fast deliveries, and affordable prices!”

Modern Movement Yoga, 834 Foundation St., is a hot vinyasa yoga studio offering vinyasa, power, yin yoga, and weighted strength classes. Owner Jolene Newman said her skilled instructors teach all levels and elevate lives through mindful practice.

“This community is filled with incredible individuals dedicated to mutual growth and support through yoga,” Newman said. “We cherish the opportunity to uplift one another and thrive together, strengthen our bonds, and enhance our well-being through shared practice.”

Community Crafthouse, 1049 Point Hope Parkway, is a craft beer-focused neighborhood bar with various finger foods, alcohol selections, and a wide sushi menu. Owner Tessa Miller said they opened with the desire to be the go-to bar in the Clements Ferry area.

“We love being a part of the Point Hope and Clements Ferry community. They have welcomed us amazingly and we appreciate every one of our customers,” Miller said. “It’s been great to get to know new people weekly and we love seeing our regulars come back!”

Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, 116 Renaissance Lane, serves up frozen treats with over 40 flavors of Italian ice, rich ice cream, and Jeremiah’s Gelati – the perfect layering of Italian ice with soft ice cream, said owner Adam Serafin.

With a goal to be the “coolest frozen dessert brand,” Serafin said Jeremiah’s Ice offers supreme frozen desserts paired with unmatched customer service and an energetic atmosphere.

“This is our first store in Charleston!” he said. “We are so excited to partner with all the local schools, organizations, and other businesses in the community. We can’t wait to meet new friends, employ good people, and make a positive impact in the community.”

Subtle and Sass Boutique, 116 Renaissance Lane, is a size-inclusive boutique featuring in-house stylists to help every woman look her best, according to owner Renee Smith. Opening the boutique to help women feel confident in their style, Smith said any customer can find something at her store, regardless of budget or age.

“I adore the small community feel and look forward to dressing women for the high school football games, for dinner at the best local restaurants, or walks along the many gorgeous trails in the area,” she said.

Creative Edge Dance Center, 116 Renaissance Lane, trains youth and pre-professional level dancers while promoting confidence, dedication, and teamwork, said owner Kasie Auten. The company is all about shaping aspiring dancers to thrive while discovering their talents.

“We are happy to be a part of the expanding Point Hope and hope to dance with many new families in the surrounding area,” Auten said. “The new location is in a prime place filled with continuous opportunities for community growth and connection.”

Coming this fall, Ye Ole Fashioned is a family-owned ice cream and sandwich café that has been a Charleston staple for over 50 years. Soon to be located at 832 Foundation St., this will be the chain’s eighth Lowcountry location. Owner Cole Spradling shared his hopes for the new spot.

“We want the new Clements Ferry location to be a place where families can enjoy great food and a fun atmosphere, where kids can stop after school for a snack and do homework,” he said. “We serve a huge menu with the best ice cream in Charleston!”
