International African American Museum tickets now on sale

The long-awaited opening of Charleston’s International African American Museum (IAAM) has been set and tickets are available for sale.

There will be a grand opening ceremony held June 27, with public visits available starting June 28.

The IAAM had been slated to open earlier this year, but construction problems pushed back the opening to the summer.

In December 2022, a spokesperson for the IAAM explained in a press release that the museum requires extremely stringent humidity controls in order to display the sensitive items for extended periods of time and the delay is necessary to ensure that the museum building achieves the conditions necessary to preserve and protect its most sensitive objects, artifacts, and art.

IAAM will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and reservations can be made for 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Museum officials say entrance is only permitted during guests’ reserved time slots.

Reserved tickets can be purchased on the IAAM’s website.

General admission tickets are $19.95 for adults, with discounted tickets for children (age 6-16), seniors (62+) and military tickets at $9.95.
