DI Neighborhood Association declares goals for 2023

Mayor Joseph Riley had a vision to preserve the unique personalities and cultures of the individual neighborhoods that comprise the beautiful City of Charleston. As Charleston grew to be more and more complex, neighborhood associations were conceived to be a vital conduit between those who live and work in the city and those who govern it. As a result, in 1998, the Daniel Island Neighborhood Association (DINA) was formed as a volunteer organization, completely led by resident volunteers, granting us greater access to the mayor, as well as other city, county and statewide officials.

DINA’s mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of life on Daniel Island. DINA is the recognized voice of all residents of Daniel Island in advocating for and resolving issues requiring the attention of the City of Charleston, Berkeley County and the state of South Carolina.

Following its successful relaunch in 2022, the DINA Board is excited to continue the momentum into 2023 by:

• Advocating for and resolving issues by meeting and coordinating with local, regional and statewide stakeholders.

• Being visible in the community by hosting quarterly meetings and periodic events.

• Educating and engaging residents through meetings, events, email communication, social media posts, and news articles.

• Implementing a strategic plan so all committees have a clear set of initiatives, laid out within a Board-approved plan that will allow committees to recruit key residents to help accomplish DINA’s mission.

• Focusing on growing our membership. We currently have 1,520 members (27 individual and 101 household dues-paying members).

2023 membership meetings will be held at 6 p.m. at Daniel Pointe Retirement Community (514 Robert Daniel Drive) on April 19, August 23 and Nov. 8. These meetings are free and open to all Daniel Island residents to attend.

Please see the DINA website for meeting agendas and to register to attend, dineighborhood.org.
