Paper garners statewide advertising awards for effectively promoting local businesses

The Daniel Island News’ graphic artist Jan Marvin won Advertising Designer of the Year for South Carolina newspapers, as recognized by the South Carolina Press Association, for her body of work for 2020. Congratulations!
The judges explained their choice, stating that her work, “Does it all. Sharp images, great headlines, great use of color. There’s great work in this portfolio.”
Additionally, Marvin and Ronda Schilling won first place in the Open Division Home and Garden category for their creation of the Custom Car Stereo ad. Judges explained their selection, “Love how colorful this ad is and it really makes me want to go out on the lake!”
Marvin and Suzanne Detar were awarded first prize in the Small Newspaper Division, Professional Services category, for an ad created for Island Park Properties. Explained the judges, “Copy, art and color make this entry stand out in a category packed with beautiful ads.”
The paper also won second place in the Open Division, Quarter Page or Half Page category, and third place in the Open Division, Use of Color, both for Michael’s Barkery (Jan Marvin and Ronda Schilling); and third place for Newspaper Promotion in the Small Paper Division for its coloring book promotion.
The South Carolina advertising contest was judged by the Alabama Press Association.
