Grateful for our community partnership

From the publisher
Start spreading the news: We’re thankful for our 29492 community.

As you read this Thanksgiving week edition of The Daniel Island News, please know how much we appreciate the support you give your local paper.

Here’s the reality about a small weekly newsroom, we can’t be everywhere all the time, so we appreciate it when you send us tips, ideas, and newsworthy nuggets. You’re our eyes and ears, and we appreciate every bit of help that keeps our readers informed and connected.

As a free print and digital news source, we couldn’t deliver the news to your hands each week as we’ve done every week for the past 21 years without the support of our advertisers.

Twenty-one years. That’s a lot of headlines, features, government meetings, sports stories, crossword puzzles, and weekly content delivered to you, all made possible by the trust and support of our advertisers.

The paper wouldn’t be hitting your doorstep, available at drop spots, or online without our team of writers, editors, designers, photographers, salespeople, and carriers. Our staff works hard to make sure each issue is informative, good-looking, and on time. Local news is a team effort, and I’m thankful for our team that was honored this year for putting out the best weekly newspaper of our size in the state.

SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL SHOPPING
Around this time every year, we roll out our Shop Local Edition to help you discover the businesses right in our community. Why? Because shopping local isn’t just convenient, it also has a huge impact on our community.

According to Lowcountry Local First, for every $1 spent with a locally owned business, 45 cents is reinvested locally. By comparison, only 15 cents is reinvested locally when you spend your dollar at a big box store. Spending your dollars with local small businesses creates a ripple of goodness across the community.

This year’s edition has plenty to get you in the local shopping spirit. So, whether you’re picking up a unique gift, booking a service, or enjoying a holiday experience, think local first. Your choices make a difference!

SUPPORTING LOCAL, TOGETHER
Here’s something to keep in mind: The Daniel Island News is a local business too! Our ability to bring you the news – whether it’s election updates, sports recaps, crime reports, or feel-good features – is made possible by the advertisers who partner with us. Supporting them helps keep us, and the local economy, thriving.

In the same way, mega-retailers like Amazon challenge local shops, and digital behemoths like Google and Facebook compete for advertising dollars. That’s why we’re so thankful for the local businesses that stick with us and for readers, like you, who shop locally and support them in return.

This holiday season, help us spread the news: Be thankful and shop local.
