Iron Horses golf team donates to local charities

Over the last two years the Philip Simmons High School golf team has raised money for the golf program and worthy causes in the community.

Last season the team held a fundraiser created to assist with their costs of operations and equipment needed for the season. They decided to partner their campaign with MUSC Children’s Health in honor of the Trowbridge family. Claire Trowbridge – a sibling of one of the current Philip Simmons High School students – is battling leukemia.

Recently, the Iron Horses golfers presented a check for $1,000 to the children’s hospital. Through the generous donations of family and friends, these student-athletes were able to raise the funds needed for their golf season, as well as donate to this great cause.

This year, the team focused on First Tee of Greater Charleston, and presented the organization with $1,000.

They chose to raise these funds through a platform called mPower6, which centers around raising funds for sports teams online utilizing today’s technology. However, any team that uses their platform is required to give back to the community by either donating a small portion of their proceeds to a charity or through community service. Their mission is to make each fundraising campaign a growth experience for our youth by connecting them to a higher cause, and just maybe sparking a fire to continue giving back well
beyond their fundraiser.
