PUBLIX BUYS LAND NEXT TO DI STORE

A 1.23 acre grassy parcel of land located beside the Publix store on Daniel Island has been sold to the grocery chain, according to the site’s former owner - Lat Purser and Associates, Inc. A Publix spokesperson declined to comment specifically on the purchase, but did offer the following statement.

“We are always looking at ways to improve our customer’s overall shopping experience,” said Kimberly Reynolds, media and community relations manager for Publix Super Markets, Inc.

“We are exploring all options on how to provide an even better shopping experience for our Daniel Island customers.”

The deal closed last fall, said Lat Purser, who recently spoke with The Daniel Island News about the sale. Purser’s company provides a range of services, including development, acquisitions, brokerage, leasing and property/construction management. They have North Carolina offices in Charlotte and Raleigh and a Florida office in Jacksonville. The company also owns three other commercial “pads” in Daniel Island’s town center area that they are in the process of developing.

"Our company specializes in neighborhood retail,” said Purser. “We’re envisioning more service-oriented retail in our project, anywhere from hair cutteries to restaurants to nail salons, there are certain restrictions we are bound by…but it will be very traditional retail…We’re very bullish on Daniel Island and are out marketing to find a lead tenant on any one of the three pads we own."

WINNERS OF UNHWA SALON’S ‘NEW YEAR NEW ME’ CONTEST

After celebrating a decade of providing services on Daniel Island, Salon UnHwa owner UnHwa Ruckel and her staff wanted to end the year by giving back to the community they have come to appreciate so much. In December of 2016, they sponsored a “New Year New Me” Contest and asked for nominations. Last weekend, two winners were awarded complete makeovers in the salon.

“The Charleston area is full of beauty and hard-working individuals,” stated Salon Coordinator Michelle Hart. “We wanted to give the chance to two lucky winners to begin 2017 on a fresh start with their style...With this contest, our goal (was) to help our winner rediscover themselves and give them the sense of pride our family of clients feel daily.”

“New Year New Me” winners Kelly Strickland and Victoria Orander were treated to hair color and cuts, makeup applications, facial waxings, and manicures. According to Hart, Kelly was nominated by several of her family members, including her sister and both of her children. She is the manager at a large retail establishment and often works 12 hours a day for her job. Her daughter, Savannah, wrote the following about her mom when submitting her nomination:

“I would like to nominate my wonderful mom, Kelly Pomeroy Strickland. She bends over backwards to provide everything for me and my brother. She is always putting her family before herself. It's not often she gets to be the one who is being pampered. She's a woman who works nonstop and is always on her feet. I believe she is most deserving of this. It's time she gets a full make-over, instead of working a 12-hour shift. She would much enjoy this over the socks I got her for Christmas.”

Victoria’s husband, Tyler, offered these kind words about his wife when entering her in the contest:

“She is everything good in my life. She works so hard with Hudson (our son) showing him how to do things, teaching him words, colors, and fine motor skills. She is also the best wife I could have asked for, always supportive and loving. She is my rock and I’m really excited for her to get a day off and enjoy herself, as well as her new look.”

Both Kelly and Victoria also received styling tips so they can maintain their new looks at home. For more information on Salon UnHwa, visit http://www.unhwa.ztechcomputers.net.
