Celebrate special times with Sassy Signs

Although many celebrations have been canceled or put on pause to accommodate social distancing guidelines, locals are finding creative ways to celebrate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Special milestones may look different during this restrictive time, but they still need to be celebrated — maybe even more so now.

While some businesses have closed amid COVID-19, Sassy Signs Charleston, a company that creates custom lawn signs to mark special occasions at home, opened in August. Sassy Signs’ custom artwork helps people honor their loved ones and let friends and neighbors know there’s a reason to celebrate.

Owner Kelly Cobb started Sassy Signs after a friend told her about a business in Alabama that produced bold signs as a way to celebrate during the pandemic.

“I fell in love with the large, bold signs that were original and not mass produced. It didn’t take long for her to talk me into trying it here. I wasn’t looking to start a business — it just kind of happened… I’m not sure what is more fun, watching the person getting
surprised or seeing how excited the person giving the signs is,” Cobb said.

Signs are installed the day before the event and taken down the day after. Two signs rent for $75 and additional signs are $10 each.

Allison Woods found Sassy Signs on Facebook and realized she knew Cobb. The two worked together at Daniel Island School for 14 years. After finding out they had a connection, Woods and her husband, Mike, were excited to use Cobb’s services for their youngest son Max’s eighth birthday.

“We feel it’s important to support local and to know that we’re supporting our very own DI teacher, is an extra bonus. Her signs are original, her very own creations. Kelly has started something she’s passionate about and does it all by herself. She runs a
professional business and communicated with me through the entire process to keep this a surprise from Max,” she raved.

Max said he “was even more excited” for his birthday! Woods said she would definitely recommend Sassy Signs. Perhaps when big brother, Charlie, turns 11 next year he’ll find a surprise message waiting for him.

Daniel Island resident Merry Preiditsch ordered signs for her husband Rob’s 50th birthday to help make his celebration special, especially in light of the COVID restrictions.

“They were super fun, big, huge signs in our yard and it made even more people wish my husband a happy birthday and made it an extra special day. Kelly is awesome and went above and beyond to help me make a big splash for my husband’s birthday,” said Preiditsch.
