Family-run Scrubz car wash brings a new shine to Clements Ferry

Stephen Davis, the owner of Scrubz, was inspired to start a carwash after observing a local business struggling with only one employee. He believed he could do better.
“I thought for sure I could take the level of service up, make it more of an experience, and I knew Clements Ferry was a huge opportunity. I would soon be getting out of medical sales and was sort of hunting for a new opportunity, so the timing was great. What I didn't realize was that it would take four years to get here!”
Scrubz is a family enterprise where every member pitches in at the carwash. Their deep-rooted connection to the community shines through their enthusiastic support for a wide array of local events and activities.
The carwash offers three different monthly wash packages from $15 to $30. Davis encourages customers to speak to the staff to determine the best choice for their car.
Every wash includes complimentary access to a vacuum area, towels, glass and interior cleaner, plus a special odor destroyer. Scrubz also offers a mat cleaning area with an industrial sink and pressure washer and Davis’ favorite – the “Rug Beater” machine for carpets.
Scrubz's goal is to provide top-notch customer service.
“We pride ourselves in making it an experience as opposed to just a transaction. We get to know or at least introduce ourselves to every customer, and since we live here, we already do know many of them.”
Ben Tonon, owner of the popular Daniel Island Shuttle, said that since starting his business 12 years ago, he’s been to every car wash in Charleston, but Scrubz really stands out.
“Steve went all in on the best technology – systems, cleaning agents, vacuums, and more importantly, the staff. I’ve never seen a family-run car wash. He’s got a bunch of hard-working kids, including his own – some I’ve coached – dedicated to providing a great experience. Scrubz is a no-brainer if you want a clean vehicle like I do.”
Amanda Reeves and her husband purchased the “Best” car wash package plan and love the service.
“With three kids and a dog, things can get messy quickly,” she said. “The employees always greet me when I arrive, which I appreciate. After my car goes through the wash, someone is there to help dry the car too.”
