As you enter the north side of Clements Ferry, just past Cainhoy Road, one of the first buildings you’ll spot is 1190 Clements Ferry Road.
Once known as the longtime home of Joey Tomatoes, the one-story commercial building houses a range of trade companies and a dance studio. Soon, it will welcome a new restaurant.
A new Italian restaurant is heading to the Clements Ferry corridor, and owners Joe and Bethann Spiotta are hoping it becomes a go-to spot for the growing Cainhoy and Point Hope communities.
The restaurant will be called Salute. “Like when you clink glasses in Italian,” Joe Spiotta said.
In Italian, Salute, pronounced SAH-LOO-teh, literally means health and is commonly used as a toast to good health.
The new eatery will take over the former Joey Tomatoes location, which the owner recently closed to focus on his Mount Pleasant location.
“What we want to offer the people of Cainhoy is a nice restaurant that’s going to offer Italian cuisine,” Joe Spiotta said. “It will have everything from chicken parm to lasagna to pastas, fresh pastas... fried calamari, and appetizers.” The restaurant will also have creative nightly specials featuring fish, veal, and more.
The Spiottas said they chose the location for its promise and growth.
“The town of Cainhoy is a booming area,” Joe Spiotta said. “We’ve (run) Bricco Bracco in Mount Pleasant for 15 years, and we’ve consistently grown with that restaurant as the town grows. I think Point Hope is under the same scenario.”
Bethann Spiotta added, “We just hope to provide a great dining experience where families can make memories and kind of make it their place to go.”
Salute is expected to open around June 1.
“This is the birth of Salute,” Joe Spiotta said.
