While the rollout of new businesses continues in the Point Hope community on Clements Ferry Road, some businesses have already been serving the area for years.
Built in 2020, 710 Hopewell Drive spans 1.7 acres in one of Charleston’s fastest-growing regions. The one-story, mixed-use building is a hub for health care facilities and grabbing a bite to eat.
Coach’s Canteen is a diner-style burger joint serving up American classics like hamburgers, hot dogs, soft-serve ice cream, and milkshakes. The old-school eatery opened its doors in 2022, taking its laid-back customers back in time to checkerboard floor tiles, a walk-up ice cream window, and a jukebox for all eras of music lovers.
With over 30 years in the restaurant industry, owner Brannon Florie has opened several Charleston favorites, including The Basement, Pier 41, and Cloud 9 Kitchen. After a brief hiatus, he’s back in the kitchen at Coach’s Canteen.
“(Point Hope) is my community,” he said. “I have three kids that go to Philip Simmons, and I drive my golf cart to Coach’s daily. I’ll be contributing to this community for the next decade.”
Recently extending its hours to offer dinner, Coach’s Canteen has introduced “Coach’s After Dark.” Now customers can enjoy new menu items like shrimp and grits, smoked pork chop, and a fried seafood platter.
