Daniel Island School sixth-grade students craft digital autobiographies
Ginger Colvin’s sixth-grade ELA (English Language Arts) students at Daniel Island School are using an app called Book Creator to create digital autobiographies. They are the authors and illustrators of their books and have been working on the project since the beginning of this school year. Initially, the focus was on creating organized paragraphs with topic sentences and specific examples in response to teacher-provided prompts. Now, they’re writing essays as chapters in response to prompts.
In the fifth chapter, students present an illustrative essay based on a quote about love by famous writers, such as Maya Angelou, William Shakespeare, and C.S. Lewis. The students shared these chapters with younger grades at DIS for Valentine’s Day.
