BE’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ was ‘Fin-tastic’

Bishop England has a tradition of excellent shows for people to come watch in the fall and spring.

This spring, Bishop England theater teacher Ashlan Fabiano and choir teacher Meghan Lovell chose “The Little Mermaid” as the spring musical. From January to March, actors worked on choreography, blocking, lines, and songs. Sophie Weiss was the choreographer for this show, and her choreography made this show stand out each night.

From March 21-23, the performing arts center was packed.

Every actor and actress gave their all in the show, in every scene or number, and it was probably one of the most successful shows at Bishop England.

Sophomore Isa Robinson, who played Ursula, said, “It was amazing. The crew was especially phenomenal to work with, and the cast was so talented. It was a very rewarding and fulfilling experience for me, and I hope I get to experience it again in these coming years at BE!”

Musical Director Lovell said, “The set turned out great! The lighting especially enhanced each scene, and so did the changing backdrops. The songs were tricky to teach because most everybody already knows the movie version, so you have to unlearn what you have known and learn new parts and harmonies.

“Some of the biggest improvements I noticed were in the confidence of the cast members as we worked up to opening night, especially among the underclassmen.”
