CFR traffic stops lead to arrests for fentanyl, meth

The following incidents were taken from the City of Charleston Police Department’s crime reports within Team 5, which covers Daniel Island, Clements Ferry Road, and parts of Cainhoy, between June 1-15.

FORGERY

On June 1, a resident of Watroo Point contacted Team 5 with a complaint of stolen checks from a personal mailbox. The victim stated that a personal check was “whitewashed” and deposited into a bank account. One month prior, another check had been stolen. An investigation is underway.

HIT-AND-RUN COLLISION

An officer responded to Jack Primus Road in reference to a hit and run. The complainant advised that he did not witness the collision, but at some point during the overnight hours, damage was done to his vehicle. There was a witness to the collision who left a note. The officer spoke to the witness, who said she was walking her dog when she heard a crashing noise and observed a vehicle backing into the victim’s car. The driver briefly stopped, then put the car into drive and left the scene of the accident. The victim was able to provide a description of the driver to police and stated that there was likely to be some damage to the driver’s rear passenger side.

DRUGS/NARCOTICS VIOLATION

An officer was conducting routine patrolling on Clements Ferry Road and Charleston Regional Parkway on June 12, when he observed a traveling sedan that was repeatedly activating and deactivating its turn signal while in motion. The vehicle failed to stop at a stop bar. The officer initiated a traffic stop. Both occupants of the vehicle admitted that they did not have valid driver’s licenses.

The officer conducted an inventory of the vehicle and found a bag of marijuana weighing 2.4 grams, and a clear bag with a blue powder-like substance that tested positive for fentanyl. The passenger turned over his backpack, which also contained two bags of marijuana and a handgun with ammunition. The passenger said that the gun was not registered in his name because he was a convicted felon. He was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and cited for the marijuana. The driver was arrested for possession of fentanyl and cited for the traffic infractions. Both parties were booked and lodged at Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

On June 14, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Yellow House Road and Clements Ferry Road. The officer approached the vehicle and explained that it needed to be towed since the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver became emotional. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle’s contents, the officer recovered a bag that contained a residual amount of methamphetamine and a burnt glass pipe with residue. The driver’s purse contained a pill identified as a controlled substance. She was arrested and lodged at Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
