Gift of piano by BTMA inspires island resident to 'pay it forward'
One good deed has sparked another.
You may recall a recent story in The Daniel Island News about Bryce Siebuhr, an island teen who received a complimentary piano and music lessons last month from Black Tie Music Academy owners Braeden Kershner and Kris Manning. The pair decided to make the donations after they learned Bryce was coming to play their public piano at night as an escape from a chronic pain condition. After seeing Bryce’s excitement over their generous gifts, Bryce’s mother, Laura Mendola, began contemplating a way to “pay it forward.”
Laura decided to set up an online Go Fund Me account to raise money for a non-profit created by Kershner and Manning. The organization, known as The Music Battery, is an after school tutoring and drumline program that meets in North Charleston. It is described on its website as “a community where under-served youth gather to collaborate and perform.” The fundraising account has already generated more than $1000. And just last week, the Daniel Island Community Fund stepped in to offer matching contributions up to $2500.
