The following incidents were taken from the City of Charleston Police Department’s crime reports within Team 5, which covers Daniel Island, Clements Ferry Road, and parts of Cainhoy, between April 1-15.
Theft
On April 1, during the Credit One Charleston Open, a tennis player reported that her Rolex watch had been stolen from the stadium located on Seven Farms Drive. An officer met with the player, who stated that on March 29, she was scheduled to practice and left her watch in the players’ gym and locker room. When she returned 90 minutes later, she said the watch and a hooded shirt were missing. The watch is described as a silver and gold piece with a diamond bezel and is valued at $17,000. The victim was issued a case number. Player services will review camera footage captured in the area.
Intimidation
Employees of an apartment complex on Daniel Island notified Team 5 that they had been receiving threatening emails. On April 2, an officer met with an employee who said she had been threatened in an email that came through a portal through the company’s website. The victim was provided a case number and the incident is under investigation.
Drug/Narcotics Violation
On April 3, an officer was patrolling on Clements Ferry Road and observed a running vehicle parked on the side of Marina Drive with an occupant inside. The officer approached the vehicle and found a man inside, slumped over the steering wheel. Police said he appeared unconscious and was drenched in sweat.
The officer opened the door and the driver woke up. When asked if he had been using any substances, the suspect admitted to using heroin. Due to his condition, the officer requested Berkeley County EMS. The officer noticed syringe caps in plain view and a methamphetamine pipe in the ashtray. A search of the vehicle yielded .5 grams of a blue powdery substance that the driver claimed was fentanyl. A white cloudy substance, presumed to be methamphetamine, was located, weighing .5 grams.
A driver’s license that did not belong to the individual was uncovered from a rear passenger compartment. The suspect claimed he found it at a junkyard and had forgotten to turn it into management. The substances were submitted into evidence for testing. An investigation is ongoing.
Theft from a building
On April 10, an officer was dispatched to an apartment complex on Farr Street in reference to a reported theft. The complainant stated that on April 5, she left her apartment to go out to lunch. On April 6, she noticed that her jewelry was missing from her bedroom. The missing items are valued at $250,000 and included jewelry made with gold and diamonds. The case is pending.
