A rash of weekend thefts from unlocked vehicles and garages on Daniel Island has prompted Charleston Police to issue the following reminder:
Lock your doors.
"These were crimes of opportunity," Team 10 Sgt. Steven Scholz said, noting that locked cars containing items such as computers were passed by. "By locking your doors, you remove temptation and help curtail the problem."
Scholz also said that residents should call 911 to report suspicious activity.
Below is a summary of recent thefts:

A woman told police Dec. 18 that someone entered her unsecured garage on the 800 block of Durham Street and stole a laptop computer from her unlocked vehicle and two titanium golf clubs. The estimated loss was $1200;

A resident reported Dec. 18 that a wallet containing a driver’s license, four credit cards and a medical insurance card were taken from his unlocked vehicle on the 100 block of Bounty Drive. A $50 fishing reel was also stolen from his unsecured garage;

Someone entered an unlocked garage on the 100 block of Jordan Court Dec. 17 and stole a $1400 IBM R-40 laptop computer and two HP Palm Pilots valued at $500 from an unlocked vehicle. A 17-inch flat panel computer monitor and Sony stereo receiver were also taken from a garage workbench;

Two unlocked vehicles were burglarized at a residence on the 900 block of Cochran Street Dec. 17. Missing were a wallet containing $50 cash and miscellaneous credit cards, an iPod and two XM Satellite radios. The total loss was estimated at $1050;

A Sony digital camera, radar detector and cash were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on the 900 block of Cochran Street Dec. 17;

A Sears edger and two toolboxes were stolen from an unsecured garage on the 100 block of Beresford Creek on Dec. 11. Total loss was $1180;

Three 24-foot aluminum poles, pump jacks and a 24-by-12-foot aluminum walk board valued at $1535 were reported stolen from a construction site Dec. 16 on the 600 block of Island Park Drive;
·
A Ladson man told police that someone stole his truck’s license plate while it was parked behind a residence on the 200 block of Delahow Street.
