Sara Powell named Advertising Director for The Daniel Island News

A 1993 graduate of the University of South Carolina College of Journalism and Mass Communications, Powell served as the vice president of domestic media and co-op advertising for Warner Bros. Pictures in Los Angeles prior to moving to Daniel Island in 2004. Powell and her husband live on the island with their two children, Cole and Grace.

Powell began her media career as an assistant media planner with Grey Entertainment Inc. and climbed the corporate ladder at an impressive pace, holding positions of media planner, senior media planner, and director of domestic media and co-op advertising before assuming the position of vice president.

As vice president of domestic media and co-op advertising, Powell developed and supervised the implementation of media plans to support the openings of Warner Bros. Pictures’ 30 domestic theatrical releases annually.

In 2002, the School of Journalism and Mass Communications awarded Powell the Distinguished Young Alumna Award. Powell is still involved with USC, speaking to classes, clubs and at college events on an ongoing basis, mentoring students as they prepare for exiting college and finding a job (resume development, interviewing skills) and serving as a founding member of the steering committee for the College of Mass Communications & Information Studies’ Alumni Society

Powell also sold sponsorships for Park Day - A Day of Giving, 2005.
