Cell tower goes live on southern DI

A 150-foot cell tower site is now live on southern Daniel Island.  

Verizon network announced it has activated the cell tower site located at 1683 Oak Leaf St. near the Crows Nest Pool. 

In a press release, Verizon officials said the upgrade is designed to increase cell coverage and capacity to areas around Daniel Island School, Smythe Park, Freedom Park, and Trewin Park, and the adjacent soccer complex. 

Verizon officials said the tower is backed up by a battery bank and an on-site natural gas generator in the event of power grid interruptions.
