Daniel Island’s popular Pumpkin Walk set

If it’s October, it must be time for spooky events across the island. One of the most popular is the Pumpkin Walk & Halloween Bash on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Smythe Park. The free community event is for families and community members of all ages providing a fun-filled Halloween evening.

Carved pumpkins will line the route along the Smythe Park path through five themed Pumpkin Walk Stops filled with decorations and activities, including face painting, arts and crafts, a Glow Sports Zone, games and more. Kids can also complete an interactive scavenger hunt along the way and turn in their completed card for a light up prize near Pirate Park.

On the main lawn will be carnival games, a DJ, food trucks, family seating, performances and special appearances, including Cool Ray, the South Carolina Stingrays mascot, and the College of Charleston Cougarettes dance team and “even more surprises to come,” according to a Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association release.

The community is encouraged to bring the festivities to life by contributing a carved pumpkin to display along the path. Pumpkins can be dropped off from 12-2 p.m. on the day of the event at the Pumpkin Drop-Off table at the corner of Purcell Lane and Daniel Island Drive near the park entrance.

If you are part of a local school, church, nonprofit, youth organization or other community group that would like to participate, the DIPOA welcomes you to set up a tent or table and join one of the themed Pumpkin Walk Stops. The community can come in costume, bring the whole family and join in the evening of pumpkins, activities, entertainment and Halloween fun around Smythe Lake.
