READER SURVEY: Public transportation options for Daniel Island
In a recent letter to the editor, (bit.ly/4tRCxCq) a Daniel Island News reader asked why, after more than 20 years of Daniel Island residents paying taxes that support regional transportation through the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority, doesn’t the island and surrounding area have public transportation options? The reader laid out five reasons that should be considered:
• It would provide an option for people who simply cannot, or should not, drive.
• It could help reduce traffic and congestion.
• It could make social life safer, potentially reducing DUI incidents.
• Public transit is simply better for the environment.
• Modern transit systems offer riders the ability to read, work, or simply relax during their commute.
Do you think CARTA should offer service – at least on a test basis – to Daniel Island and Clements Ferry Corridor?
If CARTA service was offered, how would you use it?
