Readers speak out on early voting

It’s probably hard to believe, with Labor Day barely in the rearview mirror, but early voting for the 2024 Presidential Election will begin as early as Sept. 17 in some places.

Several states begin early voting 40-50 days before Election Day, Nov. 5, according to vote.org’s national calendar.

In South Carolina, early voting can begin 15 days before Election Day. While early voting is meant to encourage more participation, when is “early” too early?

• Early voting should only be seven days before Election Day.
• I prefer to go to the polls.
• Voting options are so important. Not everyone can take time off on Election Day, and we should ensure that everyone who can vote had the opportunity to do so. I prefer voting early in person to make Election Day crowds slightly more manageable.
• I like to vote early because it fits my schedule and is faster than voting on Election Day.
• The only reason to vote early is if we will be out of town.
• Vote early. Avoid crowds.
• I volunteer as a poll manager for Berkeley County and we are supposed to vote early so we can focus on our duties on Election Day.
• Yes, I’ll vote early as it’s more convenient to vote when it fits my schedule.
