On September 11, members of Daniel Island Rotary Club attended a press conference regarding Hurricane Dorian relief. President Bill Cannon spoke to the importance of helping those who have suffered as a result of this natural disaster. DI Rotarians raised more than $22,000 to help those in the Bahamas who were impacted by Hurricane Dorian. At the September 18 breakfast meeting, ESPN Basketball Analyst Debbie Antonelli spoke about her 30-year career, fundraising for the Special Olympics and her involvement with the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry. At the September 25 breakfast meeting, Rotarians met in small groups and discussed the importance of membership, retaining members, membership involvement, and adding new members. After the meeting, members gathered to put together 240 food bags for the Ronald McDonald House. On September 11, Rotary District Governor Johnny Moore spoke at the weekly breakfast meeting and shared his vision of the world mission of Rotary. At the Daniel Island Rotary Club’s Chili Cook-Off, Caroline O’Connor counted each vote to determine which Rotarian made the best chili. The second annual event was held Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Pierce Park Pavillion. The winners for best chili are Beth Lee, first place; Sally Castengera, second place; and Mary Schroeder, third place. Funds from the Rotary event support efforts to end polio worldwide.
