Bishops and Lady Bishops snap cold spells with wins against N. Charleston

Both the Bishop England Battling Bishops and Lady Bishops have been struggling a little bit as of late. The Ladies were not losing games, but not living up to their self-set standards. The men were looking to snap a three game conference losing streak. Both teams achieved their goals Friday, with the ladies winning 89-21 while the men won 53-37.

The Ladies’ struggles were with offensive efficiency, which has been the story for much of the past two years. The struggles worsened as of late, but the Lady Bishops elevated their play to their normal level against the N. Charleston Cougars. With no games that worry Coach Runey until the playoffs, he is relieved they are at least back to their old selves. He can now give players who do not play as much more chances to play. Coach said, “The idea is to get kids who don’t play as much to see how well they can step up for us. The idea for us is to look at certain things that we may not have run as much in the past… The whole idea is for us to improve on our fundamentals.”

The men were having issues of their own. Coming into the N. Charleston game, they needed to break a three game losing streak in conference. They did just that. Much of their game always revolves around point guard Brendan McHale, who stepped up and delivered a strong 15 point, 5 rebound and 5 assist game. Three of those assists came on consecutive possessions to put the Cougars away after a game of very strong team defense. When asked about those assists, Coach Grevey answered, “He’s really streaky, and he can score any time he wants; we’ve been encouraging him to dump it off to the open guy; and tonight he responded, and he had a really good game.”

The Bishops played last night against Garrett last night. The stats are online at http://besports.net/behs/team.php?sport=BK. Their next game is away at Battery Creek on Friday.
