From Little Ninja to karate Kohai: JKIDI student earns black belt

In a ceremony at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, December 5, Bishop England High School sophomore Rey Robinson was awarded his first degree black belt, becoming one of Japan Karate Institute Daniel Island’s newest junior instructors. Kohai Rey began his training at the dojo in the “Little Ninja” program in November 2004, and is the 25th student from JKIDI to earn black belt. His parents, Gigi and George Robinson, are proud that he didn’t give up on the journey to his black belt, noting that his older brother, Tomie, earned the same level five years ago. States Kohai Rey, “I feel relieved, and will continue to do karate.”
