Tips for using the StreakZ Curly Tail

Years ago, the first Z-Man lure I ever used was a StreakZ Curly Tail. After several weeks using the lure, I realized it was positively buoyant (it floats). Recognition of this fact fundamentally changed the way I fished. By matching the StreakZ Curly Tail with different weight jig heads, I learned to control the lures rate of descent. This helped me to catch significantly more fish (especially Trout). Thus, the StreakZ Curly Tail became my go to lure. As time passed, Z-Man released several new lures like the MinnowZ and StreakZ 3.75 (my current favorites) and I quit using the Curly Tail.
Last week, while on a scouting trip for Trout (in gale force winds), I ran out of StreakZ 3.75 lures. Panic stricken, I rummaged through my tackle box. Sadly, there were no 3.75s to be found. However, I did find an old package of StreakZ Curly Tails. A bit discouraged, I rigged one on a Trout Eye (3/16 ounce) jig and returned to the task of finding Trout. It took a while but I eventually located a school of Trout in a channel about 10 feet deep. Most of the strikes occurred as the lure fell to the bottom. The Trout really liked the StreakZ Curly Tail and (once again) I do too!
